Portability and M!cro$oft

The other day, a friend pointed me in the direction of www.portableapps.com - a selection of open-source apps that can run direct from a USB stick. I live and die by my PNY 1Gb stick, so I ventured forth with great interest…

…and whaddya know? I find portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird (my internet browser and email prog of choice), together with a few other, unfamiliar (to me), programs.

Delving further I find (free!) virtual replacements for MSOffice [OpenOffice], Photoshop [GIMP] and DreamWeaver [Nvu]. I am, as they say, a very happy bunny… I’ve downloaded both the portable- and full versions of each and intend using them wherever possible.

Now, all I need to do is pluck up the courage to play with Linux and I can wave bye-bye to M!cro$oft :-)
