02/20/2004 Entry: "What a week..."

This week was supposed to be a week off. Instead, it's been bloody hard work - physically, mentally & emotionally.

We cleared Nan's flat out last Thursday & Friday, which felt strange to say the least.

Saturday through to Monday Jo & I spent on DIY, getting my flat ready for sale. Again more hard work! Note to self: laminate flooring underlay can be hazardous to your health. Wear gloves next time.

Tuesday: Nan's funeral service & cremation. An unbelievably straining day made worse by the crap weather. Wore out two handkerchiefs - one for nose, one for eyes. However, it was nice to see so many members of the (extended) family making the effort to cross the country to be there. Thank God for my cousin's little boy, Matthew, who brightened an otherwise sombre occasion.

Wednesday through to Friday - yet more DIY! In all, we've

• repainted the bathroom in advance of the re-fit;


• repainted the bedroom, fitted a new blind & moved the furniture around;


• lifted & re-laid laminate flooring in the hallway;


• repainted all of the coving to cover up my previous (terrible) mistakes;


• laid laminate flooring in the lounge/diner; and


• vacuumed up all of the dust. And there was a lot of it.

Hard work, yes but extremely rewarding. Just a few more tidy ups left to go, a bathroom suite to install & some vinyl floor tiles to go down & it's finished! Should be on the market by mid to late March.

Anyone want to buy a flat? :-)
