The fallen…
I thought it might be nice to list all of the kit I’ve owned (with approximate dates), although I’m sure it will be enough to induce a coronary. I’ll see if I can find some pictures to go with them, too. So, in no particular order:
- Blue Meanie (2006-2009). Assembled by Paul Creedy of Arrowhead Guitars from a collection of bits acquired from various sources between 2001 and 2005. Sold via eBay as I’m just not a pointy guitar guy.
- Yamaha SGV 800 (2003 – 2007) – a black, sparkly number with a funky shape; bought from Macari’s on Charing Cross Road. Sold to my friend Andrew via the wonders of ukmg.
- Yamaha Pacifica 12-string (2003-2005) – bought from DaveB from ukmg, hardly used. Hence, sold.
- Epiphone Les Paul Special II (1999 – 2003) – a cheap (£99) deal from Soho Soundhouse (plywood body, naff tuners etc.) made better with some alnico pickups and Kluson-style tuners from Brandoni in Wembley.
- Eko CX-7 (1991 – 2002) – my first “real” electric guitar, bought from Brandoni. *Claim to fame* This was the one featured in the Brandoni catalogue at the time. I’d originally planned to assemble my own, but Roberto had already done a much better job than I could.
- Vox AC-50 piggyback (1992 – 1996?) – acquired from a friend who was using the 2×12″ cab as a coffee table (the head was hidden behind the sofa). Denis Cornell (he who makes Eric Clapton’s amps) gave it the once-over and it was a great amp that I forever regret letting go (swapped with a Marshall Lead 12 for a Marshall Valvestate 8080. Yes, I know). Last I heard, it was snapped up by a visiting Japanese Beatles cover band…
- Marshall Valvestate 8080 (1996 – 2000) – not a bad amp; did what I wanted it to. Surplus to requirements when I got my Flextone combo.
- Marshall Lead 12 (1991 – 1996) – my first amp! Picked up for £50 in Loot, I successfully managed to annoy almost everyone on the 13th floor of my Halls…
- Line6 Flextone combo (2000 – 2004) – I got a free demo CD of Line6′s POD and was blown away… Then wondered if it came in combo form – it did! I PX’d the 8080 and a Zoom 3000S for this amp plus floorboard and it was my mainstay through my “Raw Silk” (covers band – don’t ask) phase.
- Ashdown Peacemaker 40 combo (2004 – 2006) – I fancied a valve amp and PMT in Southend did me a great deal. A cracking little amp with plenty of poke, I was one of the lucky ones if the reviews at Harmony Central are to be believed… Sold to fund my current amp, the Carlsboro 50 Top.
- Boss ME-6 (c.1993) – not a bad effects unit, sold to a friend for what I paid for it
- Zoom 9000 (c. 1994 – 1999) – I loved this little device. Great time-based effects, nifty foot controller, fitted under the strap handle on my Marshall. Sold when I upgraded to:
- Zoom 3000S (1999) – What a pile of crap. I wish I’d read Adrian‘s review before I wasted my money. What seemed like a good idea at the time was rapidly replaced by the Line6 outfit.
- Boss pedals (1991 to current) – DS-1 Distortion, Noise Gate, Super Octave, Harmonist, CS-3 Compressor/Sustainer.
- Other stuff – Boss TU-12 tuner. Sold to fund some more pedal GAS
I’m sure there’s more – I’ll put my thinking cap on…
